Hasselblad announced last year they would be releasing a special limited edition of their new medium format mirrorless system. This special edition camera came in an all black finish (rather than the bring silver standard version) and included with the body will be a leather hand strap, the 45mm lens and… A limited edition box?
“The X1D-50c 4116 Edition has been created to commemorate Hasselblad’s 75 years at the pinnacle of photography. Since 1941, we have drawn on Victor Hasselblad’s philosophy of innovation and design to produce cameras that push the boundaries of excellence; that help photographers ‘create to inspire’.Like the iconic V System, the X1D seamlessly combines portability with excellent optical quality for which the brand is renowned. Hasselblad has ingeniously introduced mirrorless technology to digital medium format for the first time ever, creating a precision performance camera that can sit in the palm of your hand. The 50MP CMOS sensor captures the finest details with true natural colours.*(4116 Edition includes X1D black body & XCD 3,5/45mm lens)” – Source
There really isn’t much of an advantage to buying this special edition kit, unless you’re like me and demand every camera you own have a stealthy black finish. Recently I was privileged to get my hands on an X1d 4116 Edition, and I will say it’s a beautiful camera. I’ve long desired to get into medium format digital photography and this may just be the camera allowing me to do that. Medium format digital photography is simple not an option for most of us. The price just to get into a system alone is steep with the most affordable being the Fuji System, which is still $4000+. The Hasselblad mirrorless is about $9000 (body only in silver)! That’s a lot of money for anyone even if your work demands the larger format.
We’re planning on getting our hands on an X1D in the near future, look for a full review at that time. And the price tag for a black finish Hasselblad X1D? A massive chunk of change at $13,395.00. LINK FP
UPDATE: B&H Photo has dropped their price on the 4116 Edition set to $10,995.00, which is still a high price tag, but if you’re in the market for the X1D, it’s a better deal on a brand new in box 4116 Edition than you’re likely to find anywhere else.
